FLINT – The Oshawa Generals rolled into Flint, winning their previous two games, and they continued their winning ways with a 5-2 victory over the Firebirds.
Kyle Harris, the rookie out of Milton, Ont., scored his fifth goal of the season just 2:37 into the contest to put his Firebirds up 1-0 on the 7th place Generals. It was Harris’ first goal since December 30th when he potted one against the Saginaw Spirit in a 6-2 loss for the last place Firebirds.
Just over 11 minutes later, it was the Generals who would respond, as Brendan Harrogate netted his seventh goal of the year past Luke Cavallin to tie the game at 1-1.
Cavallin, the rookie out of Greely, Ont., playing in his 25th game of the season, made 29 saves on the 33 shots that the Generals steered towards the young netminder. Cavallin hasn’t picked up a win in over three weeks. His last win came in a 3-2 OT win over the Sarnia Sting back on February 2nd.
The Generals would continue to roll as Hayden McCool would add another goal for Oshawa with under a minute to play in the opening frame. McCool’s 12th of the season gave the Generals a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes, and they wouldn’t look back.
Daniel Antropov’s 14th of the season, followed by Nick Wong’s 16th of the season would be the game-winning and insurance goal for the Generals in the 2nd period and give Oshawa a 4-1 lead after two frames.
Ty Dellandrea scored his 23rd goal of the season early in the 3rd period on the power play after Serron Noel was called for holding. Flint looking to mount a comeback but were denied time after time by Kyle Keyser.
Keyser, originally from Coral Springs, FL stopped 33 of the 35 shots that Flint directed towards the net. Keyser picked up his 22nd win of the season against his former team, who he played 17 games with back in the 2015-2016 season. This was Keyser’s 3rd consecutive win, and fourth in his last five games.
Hayden McCool would add an empty netter (13th of the year) with just 1:21 remaining in the game to seal the 5-2 victory for the Generals.
The Firebirds losing streak continues to 10 games as they are dead last in the OHL standings, and nine points back of Erie for 9th in the OHL Eastern conference. Flint will play in Sarnia at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena tomorrow afternoon for a 2:05 puck drop.
Oshawa on the other hand have won three straight games and four of their last five. The Generals will hope to continue their winning ways as they play Saginaw tomorrow night on the road at the Dow Event Centre, puck drop will be at 5:30.
